We are so proud to announce that we have recently released 10 rehabilitated orangutans back to the wild successfully, all while following a strict COVID safe plan, that was 12 months in the making.

But it doesn't end there! We have an ambitious plan to release a total of 33 orangutans back to the wild this year, and we desperately need your help!

Will you help us reach our goal of raising $75,000 by April 15, so that we may continue our release program well into the year?

The release of an orangutan is an incredibly complex and expensive exercise, but it is our ultimate aim to have as many of our rehabilitated orangutans back in the wild, living safe from human involvement as well as the threat of COVID.

Each orangutan costs approximately $13,000 AUD to release, which includes the cost of hiring a helicopter to eliminate the risk of COVID exposure to the orangutans and the staff involved.

Once released each orangutan will be tracked by our Post-Release Monitoring Team for up to 6 months to ensure they readjust successfully to living in the wild without human support.

To date, BOS has released 468 orangutans. Will you help us make it to over 500 orangutans released this year?

Give $30

$30 will help to pay for a sedative and food to ensure each orangutan is comfortable on their long journey to freedom. A sedative is crucial to keep an orangutan safe and calm while they are being transported.

Give $50

$50 will help to pay for the costs of radio tracking devices that will be implanted in each orangutan. They will assist our Post-Release Monitoring Team to track them in the wild, ensuring they are thriving.

Give $100

$100 will go a long way in helping us to cover the very expensive costs of hiring a helicopter to release each orangutan into the remote rainforests of Borneo, far from human settlements.

All donations over $2 are tax-deductible.

Our goal is to raise $330,000 USD between all global BOS Partners, to assist in the release of 33 orangutans in 2021. Any surplus funds raised above this will be utilised to support a number of #OrangutanFreedom Projects, such as;

Pre-release operations at the two rehabilitation centres (including several long-overdue infrastructure improvements)
Allow a greater number of orangutans currently living in enclosures to continue their rehabilitation on a pre-release island
Continue our post-release monitoring programs at the three release sites
